FLYING & traveling abroad
Double-check your documents, visas, etc.
Check with the airline regarding baggage, and what is allowed.
Call your credit card company and let them know you'll be traveling.
Arrive at the airport at least three hours before your flight.
Pack your bathing suit and an extra change of clothes and your routine meds in your carry-on!
Be kind at check-in - you might get an upgrade because of it!
Don't overbook your trip! Many hotels and properties have staff on sight that can help you figure out what excursions or activities you want to take part in once you get there. Planning in advance is fine, but spontaneous fun can sometimes be better.
Cruising
If possible, arrive at your port of departure a day before, especially if you are flying in. The ship won't wait for you if you're late.
Pack extra toiletries as those on the cruise can be expensive. Be sure to include some OTC medication with your routine meds, and some seasickness medication if this is your first cruise (you never know!)
Research excursions using the cruise lines website or app. Excursions can fill up fast, so don't wait till you are on board to book them!
You can book with independent operators outside of the cruise line, but you will have to be mindful of what time you leave port. Again - the ship won't wait for you! I always suggest that clients go with the cruise line-offered excursions, they can be just as good!
Bring the ship's contact information with you when you go offshore.
Keep your phone in airplane mode to avoid any extra charges.
Theme parks
Research rides in advance. Decide what is your top priority before running to try to see and do everything.
Plane your meals - most theme parks have apps where you can make reservations with the tap of your fingers. It's much easier than waiting hours with hungry kiddos.
Don't forget your sunscreen, hats, baby wipes - etc. Buying these at the park can be costly.
Arrange a meeting place if anyone in your party gets lost.
Always consider staying in one of the hotel theme parks instead of an outside one as it makes traveling back and forth much easier!
